Digital Apprentice Wins Business Award

A digital apprentice at one of Portsmouth’s fastest-growing marketing agencies has been awarded the accolade of Apprentice of the Year. Jess Moon, 20, is a trainee account manager at local marketing agency DigitalDinos, based at Lakeside North Harbour, Portsmouth. She was one of just a handful of winners and the only Apprentice to win an award at The News Business Awards held at The Guildhall, Portsmouth on Friday 1st February. Now in its 18th year, these prestigious awards, run by Portsmouth’s daily newspaper, are given to the brightest businesses and professionals in the area.

Currently studying a Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship at Portsmouth College, Jess (pictured middle) has worked for DigitalDinos for over six months. This thriving marketing agency has a string of satisfied customers on its books and is all the more remarkable due to the fact its two owners are only 20 and 21 years old. Launched in 2016 by Carl Hewitt and Reece Matthews, these two former apprentices, also of Portsmouth College, were keen to offer a student the chance to work in their business. Since joining the team in July 2018, Jess has project managed a number of campaigns and has helped to drive the agency to further success.

Upon receiving her award Jess said:

“I am very happy. Everyone said I would win but I said “there’s no chance” so I am very pleased and a bit shocked. I have never been to an awards night and it’s been incredible.”

Reece Matthews, Co-Director of DigitalDinos said:

“Everyone at DigitalDinos is so proud of Jess. She’s a wonderful addition to our team and has excelled in her work. Her dedication to providing our customers with a high-quality service has been remarkable so this award is much deserved.’

Carl Hewitt, Co-Director continued,

“We’d also like to thank her tutor, Craig McHugh as he has been instrumental in her gaining both the skills and confidence to succeed. We’re looking forward to seeing what Jess achieves next!”

Simon Barrable, Principal of Portsmouth College, commented:

“I am thrilled that one of our Digital Marketing apprentices, Jess, has won this prestigious award. To have been selected as Apprentice of the Year across all the many apprenticeships that run in the city is a real testament to her and to the apprenticeship programme here at the College. The ability to offer students the chance to earn and learn within their chosen industry is really important both to us at Portsmouth College and across the City more widely.”
