A Level Law, Psychology and Religious Studies
Career aims: I would like to go to the University of Southampton to study a Law degree in 2020. My long term goal is to become a solicitor since Law is the subject that I enjoy most.
There are a lot of opportunities at Portsmouth College besides your choice of courses. For example, by being part of the More Able Students’ Programme, I took part in the HE+ programme with the University of Cambridge. This then led to me finding the Making Links School Challenge held by the magic circle law firm Linklaters. I was able to win £10,000 for college as well as having the opportunity to do a work experience placement with the firm.
Level 3 Sports Leadership, NVQ Level 2 Gym Instructor and Public Services Outdoor Pathway
Career aims: I am looking at studying a Sports degree of some kind. My long term plan for the future is coaching.
I chose Portsmouth College because it was recommended by friends who had similar interests to me. The College also has a great sports and public services reputation with proactive teachers who push you further to help you reach your targets.
A Level French, Law, Mathematics and Further Mathematics
Career aims: I hope to study Law at the University of Law or Mathematics at a prestigious university.
I felt a real sense of community at the open days and I’ve had a fantastic experience so far. The facilities are great here and the iPad scheme helps support my learning; making it easier to do independent work at home while still having access to college material. The one-to-one careers advice on offer has helped me with my CV in preparation for my next steps.
A Level Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics
Career aims: As I hope to pursue a career in Medicine, I intend to apply to a Medical School in a Russell Group university.
Portsmouth College was recommended by teachers and friends at my previous school. The timetable gives me more free time and I prefer the later start time to school! Another great tool is the iPad scheme which makes research and homework a lot easier.
BTEC Music Performance, Music Technology and Applied Law
Career aims: I will be applying to the University of Bath next year to study Music Performance and will hopefully be a successful music artist one day.
I chose Portsmouth College because I wanted an academic course that would broaden my career options such as Law as well as a vocational subject that I love. The gigs I have performed at with the music department have been one of the most memorable experiences and has boosted my confidence as a performer.
A Level Geography, Politics and Media
Career aims: I am currently looking at studying International Relations at the University of Plymouth as this course combines my interest in geography and politics surrounding international affairs.
After visiting the College in year 11, I knew this is where I wanted to spend my next steps in education. It has a welcoming atmosphere and a sense of community that made me feel valued as a student.
