Student Absence Reporting
If you are ill and cannot attend, your parent/carer must contact the college before the start of your first lesson on EACH day you are absent. You can do this by one of the following methods:
• Phone 023 9234 4377 If your parent is asked to leave a message, please speak clearly and leave student name, date of birth and the reason for absence.
• Email attendance@portsmouth-college.ac.uk Your parent must email with the subject of the email being ‘Absent’ followed by your network username and then give your name and reason for absence.
Taking a Holiday During Term Time
Excellent attendance is crucial to be successful at College. Students who have and maintain an attendance level of over 95% are more likely to achieve above their national expected grades than those who have attendance levels below this. Taking time out of college during term time for a holiday has a detrimental impact on learning and progress. The college therefore does not authorise absences during term time for the purpose of a holiday.
For unauthorised absence requests, please follow the procedure below:
• If you are under 19, a request must be made in writing to the Deputy Principal, Frances Mullen, by your Parent/Carer.
• If you are over 19 you must apply in writing to the Deputy Principal, Frances Mullen.
Email: frances.mullen@portsmouth-college.ac.uk
Where possible, pre-arranged appointments/interviews should be arranged outside of your timetabled sessions.
