Information for Applicants – September 2020

Letter from the Principal - 2nd April 2020

I wanted to take this opportunity to reassure all applicants of the steps and measures that we will be taking and putting in place in order to support your progression to Portsmouth College in September. We have again had a record number of applications for September and are in the final stages of completing interviews remotely. Students who have had an offer from the college to study with us will have that place honoured and I hope that this is reassuring to hear at this difficult time.

We are currently working on developing online learning materials to support you in the time in between school and college so that you are ready to start your Post 16 education with confidence. We are planning to make these materials available on your school’s Virtual Learning Environment after the Easter break. These will include subject-specific materials to support you with your transition and final course choices.

Our Introduction Days were scheduled for Friday 26th and Monday 29th June. At this moment we cannot be certain that these events will take place as this will be determined by Government advice for schools and colleges in terms of when we will be permitted to open again. If we are unable to go ahead with the Introduction Days then we will ensure that you still receive all of the important enrolment information that you require, including details in relation to our iPad scheme. We will also cover some of the activities from the Introduction Day in our Freshers’ activities in September so that you are fully prepared to commence your studies.

Our main enrolment period traditionally takes place late August/early September. We will contact you directly in relation to arrangements for your appointment in due course. At your enrolment interview, you will be able to finalise your course choices through discussion with our teachers and careers advisers. We will do everything that we can to ensure that you are on a programme of study that is reflective of your ability and future career aspirations. We pride ourselves on the care and attention that we take through this process and the current circumstances will not detract from that and our quality of service. Please be assured that we will work with you as an individual to ensure that your time at Portsmouth College is a success.

I will be posting updates on our website and I encourage you to check this on a regular basis so that you remain informed. You can also follow us on our social media platforms for exciting news about the college. We already see you as part of our community and connecting with us online is another way to keep in touch.

In these challenging times please be assured that Portsmouth College will make it happen for you.
