Cancellation of January BTEC / CTEC ExaminationsPublished on: January 7, 2021
Dear Parents, Carers and Students
When the decision was made to close schools and colleges on Monday evening, the advice that we received from the Department of Education was that January vocational examinations were still to go ahead. As you know we have tried to give students and parents choice in this matter so that those that wanted to sit the exams were able to do so, but those that preferred not to attend College during the pandemic could remain at home.
It is clear from the feedback we have received in the last two days that this situation has put untenable pressure on students and their families, as well as on teaching staff and exams staff, during what is already a very stressful time. With this in mind I have taken the decision to cancel all future January BTEC / CTEC examinations during lockdown, thereby relieving the stress experienced by many.
I am sorry for the additional distress caused by these circumstances and I know that students have worked hard in preparation for these examinations; I hope that these students are not disappointed by this decision. Alternative assessment methods are now being worked on by the Department for Education; when we have further information we will forward it to you. We are sorry that we are not able to provide more detailed information at this stage.
With best wishes,
