All international students require a visa to study in the UK. To study at Portsmouth College, the type of visa you normally require is a Tier 4 (General) student visa. Please note that if you are a student from the EU then you do not require a visa.
Tier 4 (General Visa)
Portsmouth College will assist you with your visa application so you are accepted first time by the UKVI for a visa. We are a registered Tier 4 Sponsor, approved by the UKVI as an education provider. We will provide a CAS letter to you, enabling you to make your visa application.
We suggest you apply early to Portsmouth College so that we can process your application and prepare the necessary documentation. The earliest you can apply for a Tier 4 (General) visa is 3 months before you start your course.
Once your visa application is submitted, you’ll usually get a decision on your visa within 3 weeks. Full details of visa requirements and the application process can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration
We recommend that you travel to the UK with your documentation in your hand luggage, as when you arrive, you may be asked for it by an Immigration Officer.
Even if you do not require a visa to enter the UK, you may be required to show that you can cover the cost of your tuition fees, living expenses and others you have committed to.
Our Global Engagement Team will be able to assist you with the UK Tier 4 (General) visa application process via email or over the phone.
