Update Friday 20th March 2020
Award of Exam Results
The government have today released further details on exams and how grades will be awarded, which you can read on gov.uk
The exact approach that will be taken is yet to be finalised, however it is clear that teachers will be asked to provide a range of evidence and data. It is therefore vital that you continue to study, learn and have structure and focus over the coming weeks and months.
Guidance on Learning from Home
We have put together some guidance to outline what is expected of you during this closure period; please do download and read this information carefully to help you continue to learn effectively.
We would like to assure you that the Careers team will continue to offer you the best support they can on a remote basis. Please do not write with questions on exam results and university places just yet as we do not have any further information to offer at present. As more detail becomes available, we will keep you informed via email and direct you to the most appropriate sources of support.
If you have any questions or concerns in due course please send them to firstname.lastname@example.org
With best wishes,
College closed from 4pm on Friday 20th March 2020
Dear Parents and Students,
We are writing to inform you that the government has today announced the closure of all schools and colleges in England from Friday 20th March, as part of the growing and critical efforts to fight Covid-19.
We will, therefore, be closed to students at the end of the College day, 4pm this Friday, March 20th, until further notice.
We will however be doing all we can to provide an on-going service to our most vulnerable young people and for the children of key workers who are unable to stay at home on their own. We are also working on arrangements for continuing free college meals and bursary support for those students in receipt of these. The government is still finalising arrangements for all this and we will issue more guidance on our website soon.
Please be assured that we have spent this last week making sure that staff and students are up to speed with a variety of online teaching and learning methods, so that students can continue to study with the direct support of their teachers and other staff, during this difficult period.
Although the Prime Minister has today announced that exams won’t take place in May and June, he has said that students due to get qualifications this summer will be able to get them in time. Again, we await further details on this so it is vital that students continue to study remotely, whether in their first, second or third year of college.
On Friday we will publish on the website the expectations we have set out for all students with regard to online learning. We urge you as students and the parents/carers of students to follow this guidance closely, so that teaching and learning can continue as effectively as possible at a distance. As a College which has invested heavily in digital learning over a number of years now, our staff and students are very well placed to make a real success of this.
Please be assured that you can continue to contact the college by telephone on 023 9266 7521 and via email to email@example.com – we will endeavour to get back to you as soon as we are able to, given the circumstances.
Finally, we would like to pass on our very best wishes to everyone as we all make our way through these unprecedented times, and assure you that we are here to do all we can to support you and one another through the next few weeks and months. In the spirit of this, we will soon be launching our ‘Portsmouth College Together At Home’ campaign; keep an eye on our website and social media for the details of this.
