This course offers students the opportunity to build on their existing life skills, increasing their ability to eventually live independently or with support, as well as increasing their ability to be safe out in the community.
There are no entry requirements for this course.
This course is practical and coursework led, to allow for students to put their learnt work into practice. It enables them to make mistakes in a safe and controlled environment, allowing them to improve skills and develop and grow as individuals. The specialist life skills building offers first-class provision for students with complex or severe learning difficulties and disabilities.
This course is designed to provide you with the opportunity to build your skills and knowledge in a range of areas, such as developing independent living skills, handling and managing money, accessing the community with an increased level of confidence, and developing the use of travelling on public transport to familiar destinations.
Students are continually assessed throughout the year in a variety of ways, to suit their needs as well as the demands of the criteria set by the examining body. Students are assessed via their written work, observations, practical and oral assessments.
We offer work experience, supported internships and are developing increased opportunities for community involvement for all of our students.
Students will able to progress throughout the department providing they are showing academic progression within their work. Students in our Venture class can therefore progress up to Voyage and then on to Horizons class.
Moderation of students’ work is set to take place from April 2019.
