There are no additional entry requirements for this course. Please refer to the basic entry requirements for this course/level.

As an international student you must:

  • Demonstrate a suitable level of academic English, normally at CEFR level B1. For Tier Visa applications Portsmouth College recommends a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 overall (with no component lower than 5) to best succeed in your studies.
  • Demonstrate that you are competent to study at Level 3 in your chosen subjects during your application, including certificates of your qualifications and subject specific requirements such as evidence of an art portfolio for entry on to one of our Art courses.
  • Successfully complete a Skype interview with the College to discuss and assess your choices.

The course consists of five core units that include Government Policies, Leadership and Teamwork, Citizenship and Diversity, Understanding Discipline, and Fitness Testing and Training for the Uniformed Public Services. Additional specialist units will be studied to complete the BTEC credit requirement. You will be required to choose a pathway that will guide you into your pending career. You can choose between an Armed Forces Pathway, where you will have an opportunity to take the Royal Navy entry test, the Blue Light Pathway, which includes a Criminology A Level, and an Outdoor Education Pathway, where you will gain water sports qualifications.

It would be helpful for students to already have knowledge of the specific area of the Uniformed Public Service that they are interested in. Leadership and teamwork skills will be assessed throughout the course and students will be expected to identify areas for improvement and progress accordingly.

Practical assessment will take place throughout the course, with coursework required for submission on completion of each unit.

The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) runs alongside the Level 3 Armed Forces Pathway within Portsmouth College’s E6 Programme, which aims to enhance students’ progression following the completion of┬átheir courses. This is a valuable opportunity for students to learn military skills and develop their teamwork ability.

This Uniformed Public Services course will provide students who wish to join the Armed Forces or Blue Light services with the required skills to do so, alongside the necessary skills for those progressing onto higher education. This course gives students with specific career aims the opportunity to work on areas such as teamwork, leadership, and communication, as well as other interpersonal skills which are required in most career sectors.

There are no exams currently for this course. All assessments are carried out via unit-specific coursework.
