This qualification is valued by the Police, Emergency Services and the Armed Forces. It is also well regarded by universities, especially for public services and sport-related courses. Be aware that the course is physically demanding!

Additional specialist units will be studied to complete the BTEC credit requirement. You will be required to choose a pathway that will guide you into your pending career. You can choose between an Armed Forces Pathway, where you will have an opportunity to take the Royal Navy entry test and be a part of our Combined Cadet Force (CCF), or the Blue Light Pathway, which includes a Criminology or Medical Science A Level, depending on career aspiration.
It would be helpful for students to already have knowledge of the specific area of the Uniformed Protective Service that they are interested in. Leadership and teamwork skills will be assessed throughout the course and students will be expected to identify areas for improvement and progress accordingly.
A combination of exams and coursework assessments will take place throughout the course.
The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) runs alongside the Level 3 Armed Forces Pathway within Portsmouth College’s E6 Programme, which aims to enhance students’ progression following the completion of their courses. This is a valuable opportunity for students to learn military skills and develop their teamwork ability.
This course will provide students who wish to join the Armed Forces or Blue Light services with the required skills to do so, alongside the necessary skills for those progressing onto higher education. This course gives students with specific career aims the opportunity to work on areas such as teamwork, leadership, and communication, as well as other interpersonal skills which are required in most career sectors.
There are no exams currently for this course. All assessments are carried out via unit-specific coursework.
