Well done to Science students who recently competed in the Blott-Matthews Engineering Competition 'Energy for Everything' for Sixth Form Colleges.

The task was to design a carbon-neutral mega-city in the area between Southampton and Portsmouth; which is something our Principal, Steve Frampton, has a great interest in, having worked on integrated sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions himself. The competition brief included renewable energy generation, carbon neutral transport solutions, carbon capture, and domestic energy savings.

Students gained a glimpse of the challenges and rewards of a career as a professional engineer applying state of the art technology to highly innovative concepts.

The team won second place out of 9 teams from 5 colleges in Hampshire and Oxfordshire, for the second year running.

Rock Challenge is one of our favourite events in the College calendar with previous years being very successful. Last night saw the Southern Open for 2018 showcase performances from local schools and colleges to once again encourage young people to make positive life choices and be their best.

Our performance this year showed the story of true life reality against the dreams of those that think they are heading for a glamorous life of dance and theatre but sometimes find themselves trafficked into the sex industry and a very different world to that they expected.

We are thrilled to say that the Portsmouth College Rock Challenge Team performed an outstanding piece which was awarded 1st place in this initial heat which means they qualify to the Southern Regional Final in April!

Staff, students and governors of Portsmouth College are delighted to announce that the College has won the Association of Colleges Beacon Award for the 'Effective Use of Technology in Further Education'. This prestigious, national award was open to all the four hundred plus colleges nationwide, so it is a huge accolade for us to come out on top!

The award recognises the outstanding and highly innovative work the college has done through its ‘Curious and Creative Learning’ project. This sees us equip staff and students with iPads for use in teaching, learning and assessment. As a result, the way teachers deliver their lessons and the way students learn, both inside and outside the classroom, is being transformed to meet the ways of working of 21st century students and is having a significant impact on their learning, progress and outcomes:

“The use of iPads has revolutionised the quality and standard of my students work”, Chris Wood, Music Technology Teacher
