The Imperial War Museum
GCSE English students are currently studying the novel ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ The Imperial War Museum, an inspirational story which conveys the powerful message that children are blind to the differences and divisions that so preoccupy the adult world. To provide a greater insight into the background to this story, the English Department organised a visit to the world famous Imperial War Museum in London, and its current exhibitions on the terrible stories of the Holocaust and the nuclear bombings of Japan in 1945.

This was certainly an eye-opening trip for many students, who found the museum experience stimulating and, at times, disturbing, and returned with a full range of ideas for their forthcoming project work.

There is no doubt that the horrors of the Second World War continue their grip on the interest and imagination of all age groups.
