Awards and recognition for students in thriving Art and Design Department.
The College’s Art and Design Department has a well established reputation for the high quality, imaginative and creative work produced by its students. Students are encouraged to work independently in a constructive environment, offering first-class facilities and a real commitment to excellence from teaching staff. In addition, the Department has always tried to engage students in a range of community projects, including mural work for St Mary’s Hospital, photography displays at St Mary’s and at two large, London hospitals and an architecture project to support plans for developments at local schools. In recent weeks Photography students Amy Bibi (pictured, right) has claimed a Highly Commended Award at the Association of Colleges Student Photography Competition for her piece inspired by the theme of ‘Making new friends in a new environment, including peer pressure’. Amy is delighted with her commendation but says part of the credit must go to her 11 year old niece for being her model. Amy’s photograph and a number of the other competition entries are currently being framed and will be displayed in our main corridor here at the College. In addition, Sam Solomon (Fine Art), Katie Lee (Photography, pictured right), Wai Yi Li (Graphics) and Rachel Elliott (Textiles) were selected to display their work at the Hampshire Sixth Form Partnership Exhibition in Winchester. The Exhibition ran for two weeks in October and aimed to showcase the best of the work produced by students in colleges across the County. Each of the students whose work was chosen for the show is now studying on a high quality art-related degree course at university or art school. Perhaps most notably, Katie Lee gave such a good impression during her interview for the prestigious Farnham College of Art that she was awarded a full scholarship for the duration of her course. For more information on opportunities in Art and Design at the College please contact Anthony Jankowski, Head of Art, on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
