As well as the Academy Sports, our College Sport Maker (CSM) organises a wide range of recreational sports and physical activities as part of the Enrichment programme. These currently include: Volleyball, Table Tennis, Golf, Futsal, Ultimate Frisbee and Tennis – with more to come in the near future. Suggestions of other forms of activities are always welcomed - we listen to our students.
The CSM activities give you the chance to participate in fun, non-competitive sessions in a supportive environment. The activities run across lunchtimes and after college.
Here is an example of a timetable on offer:
1:05pm - 1:50pm
Sportshall (12.30pm start)
|4:15pm - 5:15pm||Netball
|4:00 - 6:00 pm|| Fitness Suite

5 - 6pm
* Fitness Suite open event lunchtime, 1:05pm - 1:50pm
We also arrange opportunities to volunteer in the recreational sport sector to enhance students skills and employability for the future.
Portsmouth College is one of 153 colleges nationwide to have a College Sport Maker, responsible for increasing sport participation among college students. The role of the College Sport Maker is to provide students across college with more opportunities to participate in regular sport and physical activity. This includes adding more sports/activities to the timetable, at more convenient times. The role also includes setting up external links with the local community to provide students with the opportunity to continue their sporting activity outside of college.
Sport and Physical Activity at a young age is not only important for health and fitness reasons, but it can also help grow a young person’s confidence, assist in breaking down social barriers, and provide young people with the opportunity to be part of something outside of their course. Sport has also been shown to help improve academic achievement, through increasing brain function and reducing stress.
